My Little Pocketbooks

Next on my list of 2014 reading challenges - one run by a blog that I just recently found.

My Little Pocketbooks is hosting the Diversity on the Shelf reading challenge!

From the blog:
********************

The aim of Diversity on the Shelf 2014 Challenge is add diversity to your bookshelf by reading books by authors of color and/or about a main character of color.

Challenge Details

1. Any book (by any author) with a main character that is a person of color qualifies for this reading challenge, as well as any book written by an author of color. The goal is to encourage readers have a more diverse reading experience and to support diversity in the publishing industry by reading and reviewing books by or about person of color.

2. The challenge will run from January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014 (books read prior to 1/1/2014 do not count towards the challenge). You can join anytime before 12/1/2014. Sign up at My Little Pocketbooks

3. Books can be any format (print, ebook, audio).

4. Novellas, Short story collections, Poetry, Graphic novels/manga, Children Books, and all genres are allowed.

5. Books can be of any publication date.

6. You can choose your books as you go or create a list in advance. Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.

. . .

You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, LibraryThing, BookLikes, Libib, etc., just as long as you have a dedicated shelf for the Diversity on the Shelf 2014 Challenge and your profile is not private. The point of linking up is to have a place where people can see what you’re reading.

I usually don't know or pay attention to the nationality/race, etc. of my authors (but I do know that Bernice McFadden, a particular favorite of mine, is of color), so I will have to take better note of that as I go (Goodreads will be of great help, since the book page usually links to an author page with pic and usually a bio).

I'm going to pick the following level:

3rd Shelf: Read 13 - 18 books

I may end up going up a level, but, for now, I'll stick with this.  I'll include a table with links to my titles in this post as I complete each book, and also include my progress in a monthly reading challenge wrap-up post.

If you're joining in, let me know in the comments!

Comments make me feel all squishy happy inside, so drop a line if you see or read something interesting! PLEASE don't leave links to your blog or page unless the post you're replying to specifically asks you to leave a link!
Sorry that I had to re-enable word verification, but without it, there was far too much spam coming in - the only other option would have been to require only registered (Google, OpenID, etc.) comments, which might require you, the commenter, to go through even MORE steps just to comment!
