Every week we'll post about what books we have that week (via your mailbox/library/store bought)! Everyone that agrees to participate will try to visit each other's list and leave comments! Everyone is welcome to join! You can join at anytime and you DO NOT have to participate every week.
I guarantee that you will add to your reading list by visiting the participating blogs in both of these memes!
I did not receive any physical books (gasp!), but I DID go back to my Net Galley queue and download the following:
The Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison - Releases February 14, 2012 - (The Book Depository / Amazon)
Goodreads description:
Penelope (Lo) Marin has always loved to collect beautiful things. Her dad's consulting job means she's grown up moving from one rundown city to the next, and she's learned to cope by collecting (sometimes even stealing) quirky trinkets and souvenirs in each new place--possessions that allow her to feel at least some semblance of home.
But in the year since her brother Oren's death, Lo's hoarding has blossomed into a full-blown, potentially dangerous obsession. She discovers a beautiful, antique butterfly pendant during a routine scour at a weekend flea market, and recognizes it as having been stolen from the home of a recently murdered girl known only as "Sapphire"--a girl just a few years older than Lo. As usual when Lo begins to obsess over something, she can't get the murder out of her mind.
As she attempts to piece together the mysterious "butterfly clues," with the unlikely help of a street artist named Flynt, Lo quickly finds herself caught up in a seedy, violent underworld much closer to home than she ever imagined--a world, she'll ultimately discover, that could hold the key to her brother's tragic death.
Call Me Princess by Sara Blaedel - (The Book Depository / Amazon)
Goodreads description:
A young woman in Copenhagen, Susanne Hansson, becomes the victim of an unusually brutal rape attack in her own home. detective inspector Louise Rick is summoned to talk to the victim, where she quickly determines that Susanne met the rapist via a dating website, a fact that Susanne shamefully tries to hide, especially from her domineering mother.
The police suspect that the rapist may have been caught on video in the subway, so Louise and a colleague go through the tapes. They’re lucky enough to find him, but unfortunately the image is blurry and shows him only in profile. While the police investigation is making progress, things take a negative turn for Susanne, who tries to commit suicide. The rape is not the only reason.
In the meantime Louise becomes more and more immersed in the online dating world. In her search she comes across the web site 'nightwatch.dk' which allows her to upload images that show people out in the night-time scene and who they’re with. She finds a picture of the man, who is now calling himself 'Prince' - she contacts him using the name "Princess," and they agree to meet...
With a climax as suspenseful as it is shocking, Sara Blaedel's American debut confirms her as one of the brightest stars in the new wave of Scandinavian crime novelists that has riveted the attention of readers around the world.
Kitchen Counter Cooking School by Kathleen Flinn - (The Book Depository / Amazon)
Goodreads description:
The author of The Sharper Your Knife tells the inspiring story of how she helped nine others find their inner cook.
After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, writer Kathleen Flinn returned with no idea what to do next, until one day at a supermarket she watched a woman loading her cart with ultraprocessed foods. Flinn's "chefternal" instinct kicked in: she persuaded the stranger to reload with fresh foods, offering her simple recipes for healthy, easy meals.
The Kitchen Counter Cooking School includes practical, healthy tips that boost readers' culinary self-confidence, and strategies to get the most from their grocery dollar, and simple recipes that get readers cooking.

I read an awful lot of books this week, but most of them were quick and easy reads (I started The Historian a while ago and just finished it this week).

CURRENTLY READING:
I can hear it now! REALLY!?! Over The Historian? Yes, over The Historian, which WAS very good and much more literary, BUT did not have me turning pages as quickly wanting to know what happened next.

Wow, you have some really good ones coming up. Looking forward to your thoughts on Catherine the great.
I know what you mean about The Historian. It was good, but just a bit too long. Shame, as with a little trimming it could have been great. Glad you enjoyed your other reads :-)
Great list of books! Looking forward to your review of A Grown-up Kind of Pretty.
I am curious to see what you think of Wolf Hall. I picked up a new copy from our library sale shelf and haven't been brave enough to tackle it. I am anxious for the Joshilyn Jackson book to come out. I hope you have a great reading week, Julie! You really got some reading accomplished last week!
Cinder was very good, wasn't it? :) I'll be curious to see what you think of A Thousand Lives too - I thought it was very good.
That sure was a busy week for you. I keep seeing good reviews for Kitchen Counter Cooking School.
@Alyce: I have Wolf Hall to read before I get to A Thousand Lives, and I expect to be very impressed with it, even though I'll probably be sad too
@Beth(bookaholicmom) I'll be starting Wolf Hall today (I've been told it's rather heavy reading) and putting up my review for A Grown-up Kind of Pretty this week (very good book - makes me want to actually LISTEN to my audio copy of Backseat Saints!)
@Brooke from The Bluestocking Guide - I actually reviewed it (LOVED it) prior to the meme post - the link is here: http://www.knittingandsundries.com/2012/01/cinder-by-marissa-meyer-book-review.html
@Mary (Bookfan) - I really liked A Grown-up Kind of Pretty - I love some strong female characters! My review goes up at the end of the week!
The Butterfly Clues sounds really interesting! Will be looking forward to what you think of it.
