Bookie Friends Favorites Reading Challenge

Bookie Friends Favorites Challenge

The Bookie Friends Favorites Challenge is being hosted by Vicki on its own blog.  I love this one; what a different take on a challenge!

From the blog:

Challenge starts January 1, 2012 and ends December 31, 2012

1. Wr
ite a post on your blog about joining this challenge
Add links to your 5 favorite books
Don't forget to add the challenge button

2. Click on the "Sign Up" tab above and leave the link to your challenge post, not to your blog's home page.

3. Visit the other participants and choose 3-12 of their favorite books to read.
You can choose them all at once or as you go.
Add the title to your original post, making sure to link back to the person whose favorite it is.

4. As you read each book:
Post a review on your blog and leave the link in the "Reviews" tab at the top of this blog

If you're like me, many of your reads come from other bloggers' recommendations.  How cool will it be to  participate in a challenge specifically geared to how we choose what to read?

For me to limit it to five books .. well, that's going to be fun.  And eclectic.  Clicking on a cover will take you to my original review page:

Strangers at the Feast by Jennifer Vanderbes
Galore by Michael Crummey
Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin

These are some of the books that have stuck with me; the ones whose titles instantly bring the story back to life in my mind.

Here are the books I will be choosing from for the challenge as well as the link to who recommended the book (clicking the cover will take you to the Goodreads page):

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

The Stoning of Soraya M. by Freidoune Sahebjam, Richard Seaver

Crippen by John Boyne

The Time Machine by H. G. Wells

Persuasion by Jane Austen

A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

To Be Sung Underwater by Tom McNeal

Of Mice and Men would be a re-read, but almost like reading anew since it's been over twenty years since I first read it.  Most of these titles aren't already on my shelves, which is why I'm not committing to read all of them, although my goal is to read at least seven.

So many good titles here! Persuasion, Thirteenth Tale, Guernsey... I don't think you can go wrong with this list! I need to look around and start choosing what I want to read for this challenge.

I see you do like literary fiction! I do think you will like To Be Sung Underwater.
You are brave to have picked all your selections up front. I am still considering choices. :-)
Enjoy the challenge!

Thanks for picking Persuasion! It is wonderful! I picked 'Between Shades of Gray' from your list. I have seen it everywhere, and will hopefully get to it this year! Excited to see what you think of the books you have chosen!
