Outdo Yourself 2011 Reading Challenge

Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

WHAT is up with all of these reading challenges?  Actually, most of them are to help me prioritize my reading and get my shelves down to a manageable size.

THIS challenge, however, is just something for fun - a self-challenge, if you will.  It's being hosted by The Book Vixen and it goes a little somethin' like this:

Details:
  • Runs January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011 (books read prior to 1/1/11 do not count towards the challenge). You can join at anytime. You can sign up on The Book Vixen’s blog.
  • The goal is to outdo yourself by reading more books in 2011 than you did in 2010. See the different levels below and pick the one that works best for you. Nothing is set in stone; you can change levels at any time during the challenge.
  • Books can be any format (bound, eBook, audio).
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are fine.
  • You can list your books in advance or list them as you read them. It is not required that you review the books you read for this challenge but feel free to do so.
  • Post this reading challenge on your blog so you can keep a list of the books you’ve read for this challenge. Please include a link back to this post so readers can join the challenge too.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate. You can keep tabs on books you’ve read for this challenge on Goodreads or LibraryThing if you’d like (maybe make a shelf for “Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge”). If you are not on either of those sites then you can list the books you read for this challenge in the comments on my wrap-up post, which will be up at the end of 2011.
Levels:

Getting my heart rate up – Read 1–5 more books
Out of breath – Read 6–10 more books
Breaking a sweat – Read 11–15 more books
I’m on fire! – Read 16+ more books

So ... I've been book blogging since April.  Before that I was extremely lax about posting my reads, etc. on Goodreads, but since then, I've been pretty good at keeping track there of what I read and when I read it, even if I don't review it.  Right now, I'm at 99 books for 2010 since April.  So I am going to participate at the I'm on fire! level with a goal of 150 books for 2011 (not counting childrens picture books, which I read a lot of to the grandbebes).  I'll follow the above suggestion of adding a new Goodreads shelf for the challenge and simply add the books to that shelf as I read them, as my goal on the blog for this year is to be MUCH more organized than before!  I'll simply add books to this post as I read them as well, so I have them all listed and ready for the wrap-up post at the end of next year.

If you're a reader or a blogger just looking for a personal challenge that's super easy (you'll just do a wrap-up post at the end of the year), join me on this one!

Comments make me feel all squishy happy inside, so drop a line if you see or read something interesting! PLEASE don't leave links to your blog or page unless the post you're replying to specifically asks you to leave a link!
Sorry that I had to re-enable word verification, but without it, there was far too much spam coming in - the only other option would have been to require only registered (Google, OpenID, etc.) comments, which might require you, the commenter, to go through even MORE steps just to comment!
