FOR MY READING PLEASURE:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Deluxe Heirloom Edition - $24.95 - "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. This deluxe heirloom edition includes a new preface by coauthor Seth Grahame-Smith, thirteen oil-painting illustrations by Roberto Parada, and a fascinating afterword by Dr. Allen Grove of Alfred University. Best of all, this limited special edition features an incredible 30 percent more zombies—via even more all-new scenes of carnage, corpse slaying, and cannibalism. Complete with a satin ribbon marker and a leatherette binding designed to endure for generations, this hardcover volume honors a masterpiece of classic zombie literature.
The Gravedigger by Peter Grandbois - $13.95 - "Reminiscent of the work of Luis Alberto Urrea and Gabriel GarcÃa Márquez” (Booklist), this enchanting first novel—now in paperback—was an Original Voices feature at Borders and a Discover Great New Writers selection at Barnes & Noble. Juan Rodrigo, a gravedigger in a small Andalusian village, hears the voices of the dead and tells their stories to the living—a job that turns out to have both rewards and dangers in a magical place where spirits and people coexist harmoniously, and where readers will linger with delight.
Small Town Odds by Jason Headley - $12.95 - "With winning wit and compassionate, delightful prose" (Publishers Weekly), Jason Headley tells the story of a young man trapped in a small West Virginia town. Enormously likable and a habitual screw-up, Eric Mercer has settled into a sometimes raucous, underachieving life in his one-stoplight hometown—a life cobbled together from his part-time activities as bartender at the American Legion, assistant mortician, and father to his beloved 5-year-old daughter, Tess. Tess seems to be the main reason smart, talented, twenty-four-year-old Eric is staying in town, though her mom, a centerfold-quality beauty, would have it otherwise. When Jill, the lost love of his life, returns to Pinely in the same week that the town goes nuts in preparation for the high school football team's Big Game, life unexpectedly shifts into high gear, and Eric must blunder his way toward enlightenment—fast. Authentic and refreshingly unpredictable, Small Town Odds is written with an acute sense of place and character reminiscent of Richard Russo.
Any Bitter Thing: A Novel by Monica Wood - $23.95 - Richard Russo has celebrated Monica Wood's fiction as "thoroughly captivating…warm and wise and beautifully written," and Andre Dubus III praised it as "luminous and graceful…entertaining yet transcendent." Any Bitter Thing, Wood's brilliant new novel, is her breakout book, a timely, gripping, and compassionate tale of family, faith, and deeply hidden truths. One of its greatest strengths is its continuous ability to defy expectations. It's not what you think. It is worse. Lizzy Mitchell was raised from the age of two by her uncle, a Catholic priest. When she was nine, he was falsely accused of improprieties with her and dismissed from his church, and she was sent away to boarding school. Now thirty years old and in a failing marriage, she is nearly killed in a traffic accident. What she discovers when she sets out to find the truths surrounding the accident—and about the accusations that led to her uncle's death—does more than change her life. With deft insight into the snares of the human heart, Monica Wood has written an intimate and emotionally expansive novel full of understanding and hope
The Wishing Box: A Novel by Dashka Slater -

With a beat reminiscent of hip hop or rap music, a well known nursery rhyme is brilliantly transformed into a powerful poem about the tragic problem of illegal drugs and its victims. From the harvesting of the coca plants to dealers and gangs to the innocent crack babies born everyday, cocaine's journey is starkly traced from beginning to end. The rhythmic text, which is realistic but not moralizing, will appeal to teenagers and adults. But it is also accessible for even very young children, making this a valuable resource for parents, teachers, librarians, caregivers, and everyone else who is looking for a way to broach this difficult subject. A list of organizations is provided for those seeking help for a loved one or a way out for themselves. A forword by children's advocate Michael Pritchard teaches us that we are all victims of this debilitating drug but reminds us that we also have the ability to change our world.ALA, "Best Books for Reluctant Readers"

The Space Between Trees by Katie Williams - $17.99 - Not your everyday coming-of-age novel…
This story was supposed to be about Evie—how she hasn't made a friend in years, how she tends to stretch the truth (especially about her so-called relationship with college drop-out Jonah Luks), and how she finally comes into her own once she learns to just be herself—but it isn't. Because when her classmate Elizabeth "Zabet" McCabe's murdered body is found in the woods, everything changes…and Evie's life is never the same again.

You would actually use the $500 to buy books about yarn rather than selecting some good fiction yarns only!? Knitting? Are you kidding!
Real yarn makes me yawn. And knitting needles are dangerous! I sat on my Mama's knitting needle when I was a young pup of four and punctured my butt with it and had to go to the hospital! And that's not funny! It hurt!
A good yarn, on the other hand, like the one you'll find in a great book like The House That Crack Built won't injure you in any way; because with some hip hoppin' knowledge, comes healing. Ya dig?
WOW! That was a big list! My son would love the book "You Can't Buy a Dinosaur with a Dime" not to mention a few others. lol! I saw some I would love to have too! I love me some good yarn books with projects in them, but bread is my weekness and I love to bake. So, the Fast Breads book would be my favorite!

I love to read and knitting is so calming for me. I had a rather rough summer (three surgeries) and I was thrilled when I was at home and I could knit. Knitting is just so soothing for me.
Reading allows me to escape if only for a few minutes into another world.

Wow - what a fantastic giveaway! I would love those cookbooks AND I would love the kids books for our kids - great addition to their collection!
Oh my gosh! $500 worth of books would be amazing – although my bookshelf may need some reinforcing. It is an interesting collection, I must say. Here are my thoughts…
Fast Breads – I love making bread and always looking for new recipes. The best one I’ve tried is Spent Grain Bread made from grains from my hubby’s homebrew beer. I keep telling him we need to start a beer and bread company – buy a six-pack, get a loaf of bread!
Field Guide to Candy – Could there be anything better? How come I never had to buy this field guide in college???
D.I.Y. Delicious – What can I say, I’m a veggie growing, salsa making, freeze preserving, composting, greenie – this book looks great!
Baby Knits Kit – Oh my. I am currently knitting my first ever project, a sweater for an upcoming “Ugly Christmas Sweater” party. If I’m knitting it, it is bound to be ugly, not sure I’m ready to subject a baby to my knitting, but we’ll see…
Mastering the Art of Beading – I surely can’t be any worse at this than knitting, so I’m game to give it a try!
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - Already on my to-read list.
The Gravedigger – I’m always on the lookout for a new author to love…
Small Town Odds – Hey, did you see that truck tree? How do I get one of those to grow in my yard?
Any Bitter Thing – Ah, a light-hearted read. I’m always up for a drama.
The Wishing Box – Interesting choice of wishes, let’s see where this goes.
Masterpuppet Theater – How cool is that?!?!? This would entertain my kids “as merry as the day is long”.
Every Day’s a Holiday – I’m sure this would be great for my kids, but they may be too busy knitting and beading.
Aesop’s Fables – Talking animals are always welcome in our house.
Olive, the Other Reindeer – Love this story! I’m curious about the scratch and sniff part though…
The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook – Perfect. We have three juniors here that we could certainly use a survival guide for…
Blinkybug! – Fantastic. Maybe there is something in the Worst-Case books about how to defend myself from the army of robot insects that would no doubt be created in our house.
Magic Scratchers – Awestruck kids, for hours - now that is true magic!
The First Christmas – Beautiful.
Day and Night – The kids loved the movie short – great message.
Sound Bingo – I know my kids would get a kick out of playing this. I’m thinking about playing in our car while I’m driving: “Firetruck!” “Where?!?!” “Train!” “Where?!?!” “Dog!” “Will someone please tell me where!”
Puppy in Circles – Oh, I know a couple of kids beyond the baby and toddler phase that would easily be delighted by this.
Giant Pop-Out Farm – The precursor to D.I.Y. Delicious.
Hide and Seek Dinosaurs! – Oh where, oh where could my dinosaur be?
You Can’t Buy a Dinosaur with a Dime – Money and dinosaurs are both important topics in our household.
MoMA Modern Play House – Now that is cool. Way too cool for the kids, guess I’ll have to keep it.
The House That Crack Built – Books are great conversation starters.
The Space Between Trees – Intriguing, but sounds a bit scary. Evie should probably read The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook.
Yeah! Great list! Good luck to us both

what a great crafty round up - yes please!
Good luck!
Just this morning encountered one of those "100 books you should read" lists and found out that I have to get busy! Little did I suspect that I'd bump into a sweepstakes like this one before the day ended. Wow, think I'll find that list again so I'll know just which titles to put on my shopping list.
great list! best of luck!
Small Town Odds sounds like a fantastic book. They all look awesome. My nephew would love Night and Day! Thanks for the chance

My son is ready for a new series. I think he might enjoy The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Junior Edition Boxed Set.
This sure is a bunch of books. I have vowed to try to be more crafty this year so would love the craft books. My daughter is an avid reader and would really like the great bunch of children's books. Thanks so much for the giveaway.

I'm a huge reader and love to spend a little alone time in the evenings escaping in a great mystery.
I must admit the Blinky Bugs looks like alot of fun and it's getting me to hit our local book store to see if I can find this!
My last comment, I am forever grateful to the author of the Wimpy Kid series. I had a son who I had to force to read until I bought him this book one day at our local Sam's Club. He read this in one day (a miracle for him) and he asked for the other books. I promptly went back and bought them since this was a first. Now the stranger the book name, he is already excited to read them. I love it!
These books look amazing, especially The First Christmas. honeypie411 at yahoo dot com
Oh my GOODNESS! What an amazing selection, and I love all of them! Everything from the food books to the craft books, to the zombies and kids books!
Random Selection Gods please be with me!

Wow. That is a really amazing bunch of books you have there. I love books and would be thrilled to win this!
I want to read The Help, all of Jody Picoult's latest books, Keith Richards from the Who-His bio, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, The Book Borrower by Alice Mattison, After the Falls by Catherine Gildiner.....I could keep going forever...
Reading is life to me!
SOOOOO many books! I would love to get my hands on the beading book especially. Always wanted to learn how to do that. This stack of goodies would keep me busy for awhile!

Whoa, what a great selection of books! As a kid purchasing books was always such a treat, my favorite days at school were library days and book order days.
I still love cracking the spine for the first time, there is no feeling like it.
I have several of Chronicle Books' Star Wars publications, and they're really amazing. I would love to own several of the books on the prize list, especially the beading book, since I'm just starting to try to make my own jewelry. Anything that I'm not personally interested in, I'd use for gifts.
Great assortment of books!
Would love to win. Thank you. Kellyeandjosh@aol.com
Great list - I have a handful of the same titles on my list (http://tennisonfamily.blogspot.com/2010/12/emerging-from-hibernation.html) but you found a number of great kids' titles I missed (or rather, ran out of my fictional $500 before I could add them!) Good luck!
great list - especially the kids books and knitting books! Thanks for entering my giveaway too - I hope one of us wins ;)
Lots of fun books on your list ^.^
Creative list!
