For the next 3 days, we will be touring with Hoodoo Sea, by Rolf Hitzer.
A little about the book: The government of the United States of America is on the verge of startling the world. Billions of dollars had been invested in its space program. And now, the moment of truth has arrived…
Scott Reed is the man for the historic mission. He is the Wing Commander chosen by the elite brass at NASA. The assignment to test flight the first speed of light craft, held top secret, was about to shock the world. The risk? Utter and complete failure. The reward? Being a part of the greatest human accomplishment ever known to mankind.
Major James Harrow, second in command of the four person crew, despised his Wing Commander. Harrow was a proud and patriotic American. What was NASA thinking when they selected a Canadian to pilot the voyage? There was no comparison as to who was the better skilled aviator. This was his time, his moment. Major James Harrow was about to prove to everybody they were wrong to bypass him as Commander.
The weather conditions were perfect and lift-off for the test flight was text book. The triumphant cheers from Mission Control in Houston were echoed all the way to Cape Canaveral. The silent fear of the first hurdle of the flight had been succumbed. All systems were go! That is, until the crew and SOLT-X1 entered the Bermuda Triangle…
Doesn't that sound like a good book? I remember being fascinated by the stories and tales of the Bermuda Triangle when I was younger, and this fusion sci-fi/supernatural book really caught my eye. Look for a review tomorrow, with an author guest post on Friday!
On to the interview!
Did you do a lot of research on the Bermuda Triangle for this book?
Yes, I had spent several weeks doing research on the Bermuda Triangle. Even though Hoodoo Sea is fiction, I wanted to have as much fact in the novel as possible. There is so much mystery about the Bermuda Triangle it made for some interesting research and reading.
What were some of the more interesting stories/anecdotes that you read on the Bermuda Triangle?
Of course reading about all the disappearances was fascinating, I believe they total 170 if memory serves me right. One of the names for the Bermuda Triangle is Hoodoo Sea. As I was doing my research, at that point, I didn't have a name for the novel. This was right at the beginning stages of the writing and as soon as I came upon the name Hoodoo Sea, I knew instantly that this would be the title of my book. The other story I had come upon that captivated me was the story of Ray Brown's crystal. He had found the gem while deep sea diving inside a pyramid structure under the ocean and it has mystical powers, according to the article I had read.
Have you ever been through the Triangle yourself?
No, I have never been to that region. It is one of my life goals to travel there, but I don't wish to be statistic number 171 to have gone missing in the Bermuda Triangle.
I was a horror/sci-fi fan in high school, and was one of the geeky girls who played Dungeons and Dragons :) Were you part of "my" crowd?
Lol, no, I wasn't a part of your crowd. My son, however, is and continues to play into his adulthood with his friends. He promises to invite me one day :)
Thanks so much for visiting with us today, Rolf!
Have any of YOU been fascinated by the Bermuda Triangle or other unexplained mysteries? (The Sargasso Sea also comes to mind for me here).
I started reading this book yesterday, and I really like it so far! Come back tomorrow for the book review!
