Mailbox Monday and In My Mailbox - September 20, 2010

"Mailbox Monday" is the brainchild of Marcia at The Printed Page).

Mailbox Monday is now on a blog tour.  I will be hosting for the month of October, 2010.  Click here to see the tour schedule!

This month's host is Bermuda Onion Weblog, Visit her blog to see links to the latest and greatest books arriving in mailboxes!  Be aware, though, visiting can lead to book envy and toppling TBR piles!

"In My Mailbox" is hosted by The Story Siren.

Every week we'll post about what books we have received that week (via your mailbox/library/store bought)! Everyone that agrees to participate will try to visit each other's list and leave comments!  Everyone is welcome to join! You can join at anytime and you DO NOT have to participate every week.

This week is kid-centric (except for one):

The One-Year Choose Your Own Ending Devotions by Pioneer Clubs
For Review from Tyndale Media - The One Year Choose Your Own Ending Devotions is an interactive and engaging devotional for elementary-age kids and their families. It’s the perfect devotion for dinner time or family time discussions. A short fictional story is given without a complete ending; after reading the scripture passage, readers are encouraged to make up an ending to the story that would follow the Biblical message/theme/lesson. A summarizing point ends the devotion. (Suggested endings are posted in the back of the book for kids and families to compare their endings).
This book also follows the monthly themes of the Pioneer Clubs, a church-sponsored midweek program for kids across North America. Writers of Pioneer Clubs curriculum wrote the devotions to coincide with their calendar, and the group will market devotions as a family companion to their curriculum.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp by Rick Yancey
Received through Goodreads Bookswap - Christmas present for my Bebe Boy James
Alfred Kropp was just trying to survive high school when his guardian uncle gets him roped into a suspicious get-rich-quick scheme that changes his life forever: stealing Excalibur—the legendary sword of King Arthur. But after Alfred unwittingly delivers the sword into the hands of a man with enormously evil intentions, he sets off on an unlikely quest to try to right his wrong and save the world from imminent destruction. This gripping, fast-paced, hilarious novel is both a thrilling adventure story and an engaging account of one boy’s coming of age.

In Every Heartbeat by Kim Vogel Sawyer
For Review through Bethany House publishers
Initially, I thought this had just 'shown up', which sometimes happens; however, I eventually DID remember requesting this some time ago (before my current "I can't accept any review books until I'm caught up" quest)

As three friends who grew up in the same orphanage head off to college together, they each harbor a cherished dream. Libby wishes to become a famous journalist, Pete plans to study to become a minister, and Bennett wants to join a fraternity and have as much fun as possible. But as tensions rise around the world on the brink of World War I, the friends' differing aspirations and opinions begin to divide them, as well. And when Libby makes a shocking discovery about Pete's family, will it drive a final wedge between the friends or bond them in ways they never anticipated?

I'm waiting on some more books from the Goodreads bookswap (books that I won't feel rushed to review), so next week may be a bit more hefty.  I'm getting some of the books I want to read or re-read for Banned Books week, as well as a couple that I want to read for Lil Bites Scared Sh**less Challenge!  And, of course, some books that I simply want because I want them .. to read ... for myself ... well, you know ... :)

Love those moments of ... where did this one come from.. and then "holy smokes... I did request it back.... back...back.. in 1989...." feeling.

That's a very familiar feeling when I sometimes get review books that I have no recollection of requesting....

The kid centric books are going to be a nice change and I'll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Great mailbox Julie girl :)
